STATEMENT OF THE AGENCY:

Commonpoint is a multifaceted community center dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the quality of individual, family, and communal life throughout New York City, offering services to people of all ages, ability levels, stages of life, and backgrounds. They strive to meet the evolving needs of their community of over 100,000 members, ranging from providing in-school and after-school programs, professional and career development, assistance with food insecurity, legal services, financial counseling, mental health services, senior classes, dementia care programs, and tax preparation assistance, to name a few. Commonpoint has grown tremendously in the last five years and now has a mission-driven staff of 3,000 and over 80 sites in the five boroughs.

STATEMENT OF THE JOB:
Summer Camp Youth Sports Coaches are key Health & Wellness team members and will report to the Summer of Arts & Sports Camp Directors. The primary responsibilities include hands-on coaching, youth engagement, lesson planning, and role modeling good sportsmanship for athletes aged 5-13 years old. Coaching candidates should be experienced and knowledgeable to teach the following sports: Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football, Tennis, Wiffle Ball, and general fitness programs. Youth Sports Coaches ensure that fair play and the philosophy of the Youth Sports Programs are maintained.

The Youth Sports Coach is expected to assist in assessing a player's skills and abilities to help create a balanced playing field and provide fair opportunities for all campers to participate and learn. The coach also maintains supervision and care of each athlete under the care of the Youth Sports program and organizes and maintains sports equipment. The ideal candidate is also directly responsible for representing Commonpoint in a positive light at all times.

• Assisting in equipment set-up and breakdown
• Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills
• Effective organizational, stress, and time management skills
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people
• Proactive work ethic and ability to perform with minimal supervision

Location:  Central Queens Center 67-09 108th St. Forest Hills, NY 11375

Salary: $35.00/hour
