Job Description

Hourly/Full-time/On-site

Reports to: Fulfillment Center Manager

Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Seamstress/Tailor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for garment alteration and repair, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and ensuring customer satisfaction. The Seamstress/Tailor will be responsible for a variety of tasks, with a focus on altering garments to achieve a perfect fit, repairing damaged clothing, and ensuring proper garment labeling. 

Primary Responsibilities:  

Garment Alteration

  • Perform garment alterations, including but not limited to hemming, taking in/letting out seams, adjusting lengths, and modifying garment details.

Garment Repair

  • Repair damaged or worn garments, including replacing zippers, buttons, and linings.
  • Repair and replace damaged or missing tags on clothing items.
  • Remove stains or markings from clothing.

Garment Finishing

  • Press and steam garments to remove wrinkles and ensure a professional finish.
  • Inspect finished garments to ensure they meet quality standards and customer specifications.

Workspace Management 

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Manage time effectively to complete alterations and repairs within established deadlines.

Additional Functions:

  • Other duties as assigned. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
  • May be assigned to perform fulfillment center duties, including picking, packing, shipping customer orders and processing customer return orders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a Seamstress/Tailor with a strong portfolio of completed work, with a focus on alterations and repairs.
  • Proficiency in operating various sewing machines and equipment.
  • Excellent sewing skills, including hand-sewing and machine-sewing techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of garment construction, alteration techniques, and fabric properties.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements and understand garment patterns.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate fabric and garments.

Preferred Experienced, But Not Required:

  • Working knowledge of Apple technology.
  • Familiarity with Google products (Drive, Gmail and Docs).

Physical Requirements:

Manual Dexterity and Hand Coordination

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for sewing, pinning, cutting, and handling small tools and fabrics.
  • Operation of sewing equipment requiring fine motor control and repetitive hand and wrist movements.

Visual Acuity

  • Sufficient vision to inspect stitch quality, follow pattern specifications, and distinguish fabric colors and textures.

Posture and Mobility

  • Ability to remain seated at a sewing station for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Occasional standing, reaching, bending, and moving about the work area as needed.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials up to 25 pounds.

Environmental Tolerance

  • Work is performed in a sewing studio environment with moderate noise from machinery.
  • Exposure to ironing equipment, fabric particles, and temperature variations typical of production settings.

Cognitive and Communication Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Maintain focus and attention to detail in a repetitive and fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
