Regional Anesthesiologist with Research Associate/Full Professor

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: May 24, 2023
Deadline: May 24, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Associate or Full Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of regional anesthesiology. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification in anesthesiology or status as a candidate in the examination system along with ability to obtain a Pennsylvania license are required. In addition, completion of fellowship training in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine or chronic pain medicine is required. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction and/or supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the operating rooms and wards of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) as well as participation in lectures, small groups, workshops, and/or simulation sessions.

Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of clinical anesthesia and ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia blocks (including single-shot peripheral nerve blocks, fascial plane blocks, indwelling continuous peripheral nerve and fascial plane catheters, and neuraxial blocks and catheters) at HUP and PPMC.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include publishing peer-reviewed publications and presenting your work at scientific meetings and other venues. Securing grants is required on the tenure track and encouraged on the clinician educator track. The strongest candidates for this position will have prior peer-reviewed publications.

Both the non-tenure clinician educator track (clinician scholar) and the tenure track involve a substantial commitment to research, including investigator-initiated and collaborative research. Are you interested in this position but are unsure about if it's the right fit? We welcome prospective candidates to visit the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Faculty Life and Professional Development website to learn more about the different tracks:
