Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Public Relations Director to join our team in the higher education sector, based in La Verne, California. In this role, you will take the lead in developing comprehensive media and public relations strategies and act as the university's main communicator. This role also offers a contract to permanent employment opportunity.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute comprehensive media and public relations strategies to promote the university's strategic initiatives.
- Serve as the primary communicator for the university, crafting, editing, and curating content for a variety of digital and print platforms.
- Manage and guide the university's social media strategy across all channels to ensure brand consistency and accurate messaging.
- Foster strong relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to gain favourable coverage.
- Oversee internal communications to keep faculty, staff, and students informed, engaged, and connected with the university.
- Support executive communications, including creating speeches, newsletters, and social content to uphold university values.
- Act as a Public Information Officer during crisis situations, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
- Maintain a database of subject matter experts for media outreach and collaboration.
- Provide editorial oversight, ensuring brand consistency and accurate messaging across all communication channels.
- Participate in strategic planning as a key member of the communications leadership team. Requirements - Minimum of 7 years of experience in the field of Public Relations or related area within the Higher Education industry
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign
- Hands-on experience with Canva and Constant Contact
- Demonstrated experience in creating effective advertisements
- Proven proficiency in blogging to boost brand awareness
- Track record of successful campaign planning and execution
- Skilled in crisis communication and damage control
- Excellent copywriting skills for various platforms and audiences
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to guide and motivate a team
- Formal Project Management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously
- Extensive knowledge and practical application of social media strategies
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work well with different departments and teams
