We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant to join our team, work alongside a board-certified spinal surgeon with expertise in both orthopedic and neurosurgery. Key Details

  • Hours: 30-40 hours per week.
  • Schedule: Occasional light call requirements and approximately one weekend every three months. Involves periodic rounding at Silver Cross Hospital.
  • Travel: Position requires travel between our locations in Joliet, New Lenox, and Orland Park.

Responsibilities

Clinic Activities

  • Secures histories and physical exams. Updates status of patients scheduled for recheck visits.
  • Interprets x-rays.
  • Order additional imaging such as CTs and MRIs
  • Performs hip and shoulder injections.
  • Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician.
  • Removes staples, sutures, etc.
  • Prescribes medication
  • Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision. Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approval.

Other Functions

  • Assists in fielding/triaging physician calls.
  • Accurate and complete documentation of all patient visits
  • Occasional peer to peer review for MRIs he/she has ordered
  • Follow up calls as needed

Performs other duties within the guidelines per department and policy within normal scope and characteristics of the sponsoring/attending physician’s practice and current clinical privileges.

Communication

Internal: Physicians, other P.A.s and N.Ps, administrators, clinical and non-clinical staff

External: Patients, families, outside referral sources/physicians, hospital personnel, vendors, regulatory/insurance personnel.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to electrical and chemical hazards; position requires lifting associated with patient

transfers (up to 50 lbs.); requires the ability to bend and stoop without difficulty; involves exposure to blood-borne pathogens; requires verbal/written communication ability in the English language; involves

exposure to weather elements and travel to all association Hospitals and/or HOA facilities.

Requirements

Educational Requirements / Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program
  • Physician Assistant IL state licensure up to date
  • Training in orthopedic care preferred
  • Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Active Certification from NCCPA
  • Active Licensure as Physician’s Assistant in the State of Illinois
  • ACLS desirable; current CPR required

Qualifications And Experience

  • At least two years of experience in a physician office or hospital.
  • Training in orthopedic care preferred (1-2 years experience minimum) but willing to train.
  • Ability to make independent decisions about patient care.
  • History of exhibited competence, judgment, stability and professional integrity.
  • Experience diagnosing and treating patients.
  • Working knowledge of managed care basics, and experience working with a managed care and Medicare population.
  • Knowledge of practice management and EHR software.
  • Able to lift and assist patients, as needed.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized with good time management skills.
  • Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to document/record information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well and communicate professionally with physicians, patients and staff in all levels in the organization.
  • Able to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
  • Capable of prioritizing and organizing information to achieve a smooth flow of tasks in the office.
  • Ability to interpret and explain an extensive variety of instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strength and weaknesses of alternate solutions or approaches to a problem.
  • Use of good judgment to determine if a problem requires consultation, referral or evaluation by the Supervising Physician or other health care professional.

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
