Job Description
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter to join our dynamic team! As a Mortgage Underwriter, you will play a critical role in ensuring our clients' mortgage applications meet the necessary guidelines for approval. This role offers flexibility with remote work options, though there may be occasional in-office requirements based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and analyze residential mortgage loan applications to determine approval or denial based on various factors such as creditworthiness, financial statements, appraisals, and more.
Assess and validate income, asset, and collateral documentation, including self-employed tax returns and Condominium documents.
Ensure compliance with guidelines for FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional loans, and other programs by reviewing automated findings and manual documentation.
Ensure that loan terms, property specifications, and documents meet both financial institution requirements and government regulations.
Communicate loan decisions effectively to internal teams, including lenders, coordinators, and processors.
Document all decisions, including reasons for loan approvals or denials, in the loan file for transparency and compliance.
Stay up-to-date with industry standards, state and federal regulations, and disclosure requirements.
Perform additional duties as needed to support team goals and business operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 5 years of recent experience in residential mortgage underwriting (FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional) with in-depth knowledge of agency guidelines.
Expertise in USDA underwriting is a strong plus.
DE, SAR, and LAPP certifications are preferred.
Strong understanding of ATR/QM requirements.
Familiarity with Encompass LOS system.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on meeting production standards.
Strong work ethic and high integrity are a must.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
In-depth knowledge of compliance, disclosure, closing, post-closing, and quality control processes.
Preference will be given to candidates residing in EST time zone and available during business hours.
