This is a 12-month limited term (LT) position which may be extended up to 24 months, cancelled, or made permanent at any time.

The Internal Audit Department is seeking detail-oriented, analytical, enthusiastic candidates for an immediate limited-term position as an Internal Auditor, responsible for auditing Claims Department operations and various business operations within the State Compensation Insurance Fund.
The Staff Services Management Auditor will assist in evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management practices, and governance processes. The Internal Audit Department is independent and reports directly to the State Fund Board of Directors on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal control systems, process efficiencies, and overall quality of performance.
In this position, the incumbent will:
• Assist the Auditor-in-Charge (AIC) to execute internal audit engagements, conduct consulting work, and lead investigations related to Claims Department operations.
• Communicate effectively with business partners during audits.
• Evaluate the design and effectiveness of internal controls, including compliance with policies, laws, and regulations.
• Document findings clearly and support with sufficient evidence.
• Analyze datasets to identify anomalies, trends, and potential risk areas.
• Provide input on process improvements, risk mitigation, and best practices.
• Collaborate with business partners to gain insights, explain findings, and to strengthen controls or streamline processes.
• Assist in preparing clear and concise audit reports or memos for management.
Desired qualifications:
• At least two (2) years of Workers’ compensation claims adjusting experience.
• Working knowledge of Claims’ procedures and practices.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to support audit project management, promote teamwork, and deliver high-quality projects on time.
• Ability to coordinate, facilitate, and present information effectively.
• Ability to research, analyze, and interpret laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to provide sound recommendations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information on a need-to-know basis.
• Willingness to travel and work away from assigned location.
Minimum qualifications for this classification include equivalent to graduation from college, preferably with a major in accounting, business administration, public administration, or economics. A minimum of six semester units of accounting is required to be considered for an interview. Please attach a copy of your college transcript for education verification.
New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate salary range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.
