Job Summary:

Performs a range of clerical duties related to the support of operations of the medical clinic.

Essential Functions:

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity
  • Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes
  • Maintains accurate and continued documentation appropriately; Documentation meets current standards and policies
  • Performs all clerical/computer functions to support patient care delivery
  • Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner, takes messages, directs calls to appropriate personnel
  • Registers all patients using sign-in sheets, gives new patients medical forms to complete
  • Coordinates daily patient flow activities
  • Verifies patient demographic, employment, and insurance information
  • Explains billing policies, collects co-payments/self-payments, provides receipts, balances cash drawer
  • Schedules new and return appointments; explains registration process and gives directions to new patients; may explain procedure preparation to patients
  • Photocopies, faxes, and scans information, including lab and test results, as requested by staff    

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Ensures supplies are adequately stocked and organized and prepares requisitions to maintain inventory levels
  • Ensures office equipment is operating safely and correctly
  • Responsible for minor housekeeping, maintaining department cleanliness and safety, as needed

  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and The Joint Commission regulations

  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives
  • Communicates and adheres to ES1, Mission and Vision, Core Values, Code of Conduct, Professional Appearance Standards and Ethics and Goals of the facility
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly
  • Performs other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practice
Qualifications

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent, preferred

Licenses:

Certifications:

  • N/A

Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in hospital/clinic office setting, preferred
  • Medical Billing experience, preferred

Skills:

  • Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work
  • Able to maintain a high awareness of customer satisfaction and teamwork
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrates proficient time management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
  • Adaptable to performing well under pressure in a stressful environment, taking appropriate action professionally and calmly
  • Must be flexible, able to work as needed for appropriate departmental coverage
  • Proficient computer knowledge
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred
